Anda Bohol Better than Panglao Island

How Go to Anda, Bohol

Around three hours by bus from Tagbilaran, the countless white sand coves near the town of  ANDA  in beautiful Guindulman Bay are an emerging choice for those looking to escape Panglao's commercialized beach and dive scene.
Of the resorts which have popped up in recent years, British-owned Blue Star ( T 0919/453-4468,  W www.bluestardive.com; 7) stands out for divers and has a good pool, wi-fi, a tiny beach at low tide and good snorkelling on the house reef.

There's a brand-new dive centre, and fan rooms are spacious and tastefully designed with lovely views out over the bay – air-conditioned rooms were nearly complete at the time of writing. For pure beach lovers,  Anda White Beach Resort ( T 0915/541-0507,  W www.andabeachresort.com; 7) can't be beaten and has attractive rooms, the best of which front onto a bright white strip of sand. There's also a pool, billiards and wi-fi (P100/hr).

Two minutes' walk from here is one of the few cheaper options in Anda,  La Petra  ( T 038/331-1316,  W www.lapetraresort.com;  4). Standard rooms are in a non-descript concrete block, but the cheaper nipa fan huts look right over the beach. A pool was under construc-tion at the time of writing. All of the resorts in Anda have their own restaurants, and some offer half- and full-board rates. - source: Rough Guide Travel Book

Antonio Ong Guat, the founder of Bohol Quality Store

From Sunday Post   I pay my sincerest condolences to Antonio Ong Guat, the founder of Bohol Quality Store . My family especially my late Mom owed a lot of gratitude to him. Little is known of the fact that my Mom as a school teacher, was making school teaching charts with her crude rubber printing set. I used to accompany her to Tagbilaran to buy her supplies at Bohol Quality Store, and bought her supplies direct from Ong Guat. Suki niya si Ong Guat to the point that he would attend to her when she goes to the store. In fact, nagpapautang pa siya ni Mom, which she paid when she sold her teaching materials to the new teachers. I suggest that the provincial and city governments should honor Ong Guat with a posthumous award in recognition of his efforts to be the founder of a business empire in Bohol, which has presently employed thousands of Boholanos presently. I think everybody agrees that his store sparked business to its fullest heights today. Fred Ong and his wife Babs Gonzaga we...

Guinness Book of Records in Inabanga, Bohol

By Ric Obedencio This predominantly agricultural town, about 70 kms. north of capital Tagbilaran City, had been the base of a revolt known to be the longest in the country, led by Francisco Sendrijas, a.k.a. "Dagohoy" against the Spanish regime.  The town, led by Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy, eyed for the Guinness Book of Records when it unfolded the 24-inch by 1,813.5 meters long hand woven raffia fabric during the town's vesper last June 29.  Hundreds of students and pupils, teachers and personnel of different offices unfolded the fabric along the national highway. Media men in the region, including the two giant TV companies covered the event. Tourism Undersecretary Phineas Alburo officially declared amid public applause the length of the hand woven.
