Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC)

     The newly-activated Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC) here, conducted a two-day disaster management action planning seminar workshop on September 4 and 5 at the municipal gymnasium.

      In the seminar, participants formulated measures on mitigation preparedness, response and rehabilitation when disaster such as typhoon will devastate the municipality.

      Mayor Niño Rey Boniel, who chairs the MDCC, spearheaded the activity, in coordination with FO3 Edilberto Nuera, fire protection coordinator of Bien Unido and Trinidad.

      Boniel had also designated Nuera as civil defense deputized coordinator and is tasked to manage the MDCC.

      The activity was significant as this town lies in the northern part of Bohol which geographical location is prone to natural hazards, especially typhoons.

      Acting as facilitators were Civil Defense Officer Ver Neil Balaba of the DND-OCD of Bohol; Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council Executive officer, retired Lt. Col. Raul Mendez; PNRC Administrator Rita Requeron; Merlinda Batoy, CSR-DMS-IHL, PNRC: T/Sgt Fermin Baluran, CRT-Bohol, 3 civil relation group, CRS, AFP; and SFO1 Francisco Manilag from the Bureau of Fire protection (BFP).

      The lecturers facilitated the workshop and group discussions.

      Participants included members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), heads of offices, police officers, personnel of the Department of Education, representatives from private schools, Non Government Organizations (NGOs), and some regular employees of the LGU. Josemaria Salutan Luengo can bid their last farewell on Tuesday before he will be laid to rest at the Tubigon Catholic Cemetery after a requiem mass at 9 a.m. at the St. Isidore Parich Church in Tubigon, Bohol  . Fr. Luengo, who had been an inspiration to many, passed away last August 29, due to complications following a stroke in 2004.  It maybe recalled that sometime in 2000, Fr. Luengo undergone a heart by-pass operation in the United States. Some of his greatest legacies of being a priest, educator, and philanthropist were the establishments of Mater Dei College and Salus Institute of Technology in Cabulijan, Tubigon, Bohol.  He also supported the studies of some deserving youth who later became priests, CPAs, mentors, engineers and other professionals. Bohol Election: Comelec Reshuffle

A reshuffling of elections officers all over Bohol came in effect last April 19 has assured the people that no election officer may show bias to his local chief executive.   New Tagbilaran City Election Officer Atty. Ricardo Villares bared this as he stressed that the rigodon should put election officers away from the allegations that they are conniving with the mayors and other local officials to assure their victories.   Villares, who came from vote-rich Loon also said the Commission on Elections has almost finished its preparations  for the elections.   Other than testing and sealing the Prescint Count Optical Scanners (PCOS) the Comelec would also have to attempt to transmit the results of a test run within the next few days.   Bohol election officer Eliseo Labaria Jr also said he hopes polls in Bohol would go smooth and peaceful, urging losing candidates to candidly accept defeat and stop being sore losers by spinning tales of being cheated. - PIA

Tagbilaran Mayor Draws Battle Line
