Bohol Activities During Sandugo Festival

With a star-studded visitors led by Binay, Bohol will flare up to the beat of sights and sounds as the Sandugo highlight is staged at the CPG Sports Complex as all systems go for the street dancing and parade under the auspices of the Bohol Sandugo Foundation Inc., chaired by Mayor Lim.  

Dancing and gyrating to the beat of Sandugo drums, at least eight contingents will display their wares during the parade starting at the city tourist port. 

Only four entries will slug it out in the competition of the festival where the first placer is expected to be awarded P200,000. The rest of the participants will present their respective numbers to the expected delight of thousands of spectators.

To ensure and orderly presentation, Provincial Director PSSupt Rodolfo A. Llorca assured that security and traffic concerns are being ironed out. The parade which will start at 12;30 PM will traverse thru Gallares St. from the city port then to J. S. Torralba street, Pres. Carlos Garcia Avenue and winding up to the CPG Sports Complex.

Following the parade, the opening program will commence with Mayor Lim and Gov. Chatto to deliver their respective welcome messages to thousands of visitor-spectators, including foreigners. Then a re-enactment of the Sandugo to be performed by Diwanag Dance Troupe of the Holy Name University will follow to give more meaning to the Sandugo affair.  

Sandugo was commemorated to recall the historic event sometime in the 16th century when native chieftain Datu Sikatuna and Spanish general Miguel Lopez de Legaspi consummated the first ever treaty of friendship known then as blood compact.

CONTIGENTS

The contingents that will fight it out in the street dance competition include the towns of Catigbian, Dauis and Maribojoc, Dr. Cecilio Putong National High, Tagbilaran City Science High, Immaculata High of Baclayon, Manga High of this city, and Holy Name Unviersity.

Awarding of cash prizes and best awards to the winners and plaques to the board of judges will follow with Mayor Lim, Gov. Chatto, Sandugo Foundation acting chair and Deputy Mayor Mariano Uy, foundation treasurer Argeo Melisimo and Miss Bohol Sandugo Amir P. Sol.

The Sandugo street dance festival will be emceed by Bohol's first lady of emceeing Ardy Batoy and Gloria Leodivica Araneta. The event is jointly sponsored by the Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Globe, Coca-Cola, San Miguel Corp, GMA Kapuso, First Consolidated Bank of Bohol and Miravilla Restaurant. Update on Rice Shortage

Tindahan Natin operators here requested the National Food Authority (NFA) to add 20 more sacks of rice to their weekly supply, to make it 50 sacks for retail.       Tindahan Natin is a program of the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).       Under the program, store owners can avail of loan worth P20,000 of NFA rice payable in one year.       Being a first-class municipality, Talibon is given a slot of only three Tindahan Natin operators.       Among them are are Eleuteria PaƱares of Bagacay, Rosalinda Cabanes of Suba and Cipriana Padin of Cataban.       According to the Tindahan Nation operators, the present supply of 30 bags weekly is not enough to meet the requirement of the barangayfolks in this town.       The operators channeled their request through DSWD Regional Director Teodulo Romo Jr. to arrange with the NFA-Bohol Provincial Manager Clyde Omictin to add 20 more bags to their weekly supply.       Through the Tindahan Natin, constitue
