Killer Bridge in Bohol, Philippines

Human life beyond risk takes the face of a concrete infrastructure with the construction and completion of a strong bridge on a killer river in a mountainous area in Tubigon.

Apart from the safety it provides to the uphill settlers crossing the treacherous river, the bridge presents a vital sign of life to the rural economy which movement it can hasten.

The essential infrastructure is yet to be inaugurated, but Tubigon residents, particularly those in upland barangay Ubojan where the bridge is built, generously thanked this early Rep. Edgar Chatto.

Chatto allocated P13 million to fund the construction of Ubojan bridge to avoid a repeat of the tragedy involving three school kids who perished in a flashflood years ago.

The victims, all children of a lowly farmer, were crossing the river on their way to Ubojan Elementary School one fateful morning when sudden, violent floodwaters flushed them to death.

There was once a wooden bridge in the place.  It had long collapsed.

Children from nearby barangays like Talenceras, Tan-awan and Cawayanan would also go to the grade school in Ubojan, thereby crossing the same river at a great risk in the absence of a bridge.

The barangay leaders, with the support of the municipal government, thus asked Chatto for funding to build the concrete bridge.

Accompanied by Mayor Luna Piezas, Chatto then went to the project site as soon as he had the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) issued by Sec. Rolando Andaya of the Department of Budget and Management.

Agriculture, being their main source of livelihood in the area, folks can finally save time, cost and effort in bringing their farm goods to the plains and markets through the concrete bridge in a short-cut route.

Chatto, together with Provincial Board Member Alfonso Damalerio II, returned to Ubojan and inspected the finished structure last week.

The congressman also went to the municipal hall where he was invited to the meeting of the Liga ng mga Barangay. (Ven rebo Arigo)

Bohol Scandal Exposed in Loboc, Bohol

Exposed Captured on the spot

Antonio Ong Guat, the founder of Bohol Quality Store

From Sunday Post   I pay my sincerest condolences to Antonio Ong Guat, the founder of Bohol Quality Store . My family especially my late Mom owed a lot of gratitude to him. Little is known of the fact that my Mom as a school teacher, was making school teaching charts with her crude rubber printing set. I used to accompany her to Tagbilaran to buy her supplies at Bohol Quality Store, and bought her supplies direct from Ong Guat. Suki niya si Ong Guat to the point that he would attend to her when she goes to the store. In fact, nagpapautang pa siya ni Mom, which she paid when she sold her teaching materials to the new teachers. I suggest that the provincial and city governments should honor Ong Guat with a posthumous award in recognition of his efforts to be the founder of a business empire in Bohol, which has presently employed thousands of Boholanos presently. I think everybody agrees that his store sparked business to its fullest heights today. Fred Ong and his wife Babs Gonzaga we

Tindahan Natin operators here requested the National Food Authority (NFA) to add 20 more sacks of rice to their weekly supply, to make it 50 sacks for retail.       Tindahan Natin is a program of the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).       Under the program, store owners can avail of loan worth P20,000 of NFA rice payable in one year.       Being a first-class municipality, Talibon is given a slot of only three Tindahan Natin operators.       Among them are are Eleuteria Pañares of Bagacay, Rosalinda Cabanes of Suba and Cipriana Padin of Cataban.       According to the Tindahan Nation operators, the present supply of 30 bags weekly is not enough to meet the requirement of the barangayfolks in this town.       The operators channeled their request through DSWD Regional Director Teodulo Romo Jr. to arrange with the NFA-Bohol Provincial Manager Clyde Omictin to add 20 more bags to their weekly supply.       Through the Tindahan Natin, constitue
